About The Earthbuilders' Guild

The Earthbuilders’ Guild is an organization dedicated to the Betterment and Advancement of Earthen Construction of homes and commercial buildings.  We invite you to join us in this mission of preserving and promoting the age old building methods of adobe, rammed earth and compressed earth block construction.  The commitment of people in this industry stretches across family traditions, meaningful work, environmental concerns, and joy of working with the earth.  We want to insure that we continue to make history through our building process while improving them to create safe, comfortable, long lasting structures.  Please join us in making that happen by becoming a member.

Next Board Meeting/TEG Tour:

Southern New Mexico/Las Cruces/Mesilla will be the site of our January 21, 2023 Tour and Board Meeting.  We are fortunate to be able to hold our Board Meeting at the Historic Armijo House  at 150 E.  Lohman Ave. in Downtown Las Cruces.  The home was restored over many years and is now home to the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce and serves as a historical site. The meeting will begin promptly at 9:00 - 11:30.

After lunch at a local restaurant we will head to Mesilla.  Our host, Pat Taylor, adobe restoration specialist, will be showing us several of his projects.  The Tour will visit several properties (as time allows).  In Pat's words we will visit the following properties....

"The Allins House  ca.1880s located at 2167 Calle Oeste  (google maps has the location wrong but close, look for a long white adobe with a front porch). This is a long term personal project of ours, we’ve done a lot of adobe stabilization using traditional materials on it over the past 4 years.

Taylor Apartments (formerly the Frietze home) ca. 1860s located at 2641 Calle Guadalupe  (enter from the rear of the property on Calle San Albino). We restored it 20 years ago using traditional adobe repair and lime plaster and continually maintaining it with cyclical lime washes.

2214 Calle de Guadalupe ca. 1860s that my wife, Wendy, and I have restored. We have a website for the property that covers the family’s history along with preservation techniques.  www.guadalupehouse.org

Gallegos/Valles property ca. 1850s 2612 Calle Santiago  (park at the Mesilla Town Hall and we’re located across the street on the northwest corner of Avenida de Mesilla and Calle Santiago) We’ve been stabilizing the base of the building for the home owners that are descendants of the original family.

Reynolds ruins stabilization located behind the Bowlins Bookstore on the Mesilla Plaza, accessed from Calle Arroyo.

Taylor/Barela/Reynolds State Historic Site ca.1850s located on the west side of the Mesilla Plaza.  Our family home that we gifted to the State of New Mexico as an Historic Site."

We will meet on the Mesilla Plaza at 1:30 p.m. to begin the Tour.  All properties are within walking distance of the Plaza.  Again, please be on the Plaza by 1:30 so we can get in as much as possible.

Please RSVP for the afternoon Pat Taylor Tour. Please let us know by email:  theearthbuildersguild@gmail.com or call or text Pat 575-644-8099.  As well, if you would like to see the Armijo House let us know. If you would like to attend the Board meeting at the Armijo House please RSVP.
